Beautiful addition & easy to use
These lights are so beautiful. They’re really a nice addition to your house. The app is easy to use. Have a lot of scenes of lights you can change between. In addition, they have a “wake up light” that can work as your “silent alarm” and help you to wake up. Definitely recommend this item & will buy more of them soon. PS. I recommend the switch to be added & in my opinion if you want just one, the bedroom is your place to add the switch to

This is a great product. We bought two and put them over our kitchen island's hanging lights. Also bought the phillips hub and connected to the echo dot and my iphone. I love the ease in which you can adjust light intensity and saturation. I really enjoy that I can set the lights to my favorite hue at night (when my wife is asleep) and set it back to her favorite hue in the morning. Also use this to change light on-off patterns when we are away from home. And, to turn it on when we get home late at night after dark. It is nice going into the house light up without needing to leave the light on.

Decided to take the plunge on this system once they introduced the White Ambience bulbs. The Color changing bulbs didn't appeal to me but I wanted more flexibility with color temps vs the basic A18 bulbs. The White Ambiance bulbs are a great in-between, you can have a bluer light in the day but switch to yellow in evenings. Remote switch is a great alternative to wiring a light switch to control lights. the bedrooms in our house don't have overhead lighting and rely on lamps. You can now control them with the on and off switch.

Set up was pretty easy. only took about 15 minutes to setup and works great with Apple HomeKit apps.

This is a great starter set. I have a ton of bulbs for this now, but these are the only two bulbs that I have that have the different shades of white. I love it. I have it turn on to a dim orangey color before my alarm goes off to kind of mimic sunrise. I honestly don’t use the dimmer switch at all, but it works well. You can set it with preset light settings. I personally use Siri to control my lights, and it’s super handy. Don’t have to use a light switch anymore like people living in the stone ages.

I've just set the White Ambiance Starter Kit up today, and it's been a mild disappointment.

This is not a particularly intuitive set up. There are no set up instructions included, and the Philips site is a stinking mess to navigate. I couldn't find a User Guide of any sort but there were four very basic steps for the hardware setup. The last bit of instruction was to 'go have fun with it". Which means you're pretty much on your own in figuring this thing out.

The app is the biggest problem. There are some step by step instructions, but some functions aren't clear, so there's some guessing and backtracking to get sorted. The most frustrating part for me is not being able to adjust the color temperature. I couldn't find anything in the app that let me set it.

This kit's bulbs are supposed to have an adjustable range from 2700ºK-6500ºK. The default appears to be 2700ºK, much too warm for my use. The maximum output, 800 lumens, is achieved at about 4000ºK, so even at full default brightness, the bulbs aren't at actual maximum brightness. There are a few lighting presets but they don't appear to be customizable, so I still can't get a satisfactory white (cooler) light.

So after all that, the lights are installed and working. They're slow to turn on and off. I believe these are Gen 2 bulbs whereas the Color and Ambiance bulbs are Gen 3, and possibly more responsive than mine.

To be fair, if someone is happy with the warmth of these bulbs out of the box and the factory presets, then this kit is fine. It's mainly that the app fails to deliver on the promise of full customization that disappoints me. If I can figure that part out, it might add a star.

[UPDATE: 03.09.2017] Shortly after my last update I began to have trouble with Siri communicating with the lights. This was a daily problem, and the only way to fix it was to toggle my iPhone's WiFi Off/On via Control Center. That fix might last for a few hours or just a few minutes. Although I have strong WiFi throughout the house, there were still problems. Part or all of it might be part of the iOS 10.2.1 update, but I don't know for certain.

Today I added a Hue White and Ambiance Extension Bulb to my Starter Kit, in a task light near my favorite chair. It was *much* easier to add this than to initially set up the kit. After a few hours playing with it, it seems Siri has *no* problem 'hearing back' from my devices (Hue lights). They now obey her every command.

The Hue lights function on a mesh networking protocol where all the devices relay instructions from the bridge to all the other devices. Even if they don't here the 'Make it so!' from the bridge directly, they still get the word from a nearby light and snap to. The proximity of the new bulb to my phone has extended the mesh. This is HUGE for me. The reliability has gone way up, and my frustration level has dropped to 0. I'm really happy now. [Updated 3 stars to 4]

[UPDATE: 12.24.2016] Living with and using this kit for a few days now, I'm liking it, finally. One complaint is that the bridge has lost contact with the router three times. It's connected directly to the router, so how does this even happen? If it continues, the kit goes back. However, I see some true potential and convenience here, and so am ever hopeful progress is being made. There have been two firmware updates and one app update, and so far so good. The app is still weak and I shouldn't have to scour the Web to get answers that should have been in the box. [Updated 2 stars to 3]

[UPDATE: 12.15.2016] I stumbled on a method for changing the color temperature— tap the Dimmer's On button to cycle through the temps. These may correspond to the four factory preset scenes. Since there's no mention of this in Philips' documentation (WHAT documentation) there's no adding even a half of a star.

Love these bulbs, especially with a smart assistant! Hue app is easy to use and setup is simple. I have set timers to help me wake up in the morning and wind down at night. The ability to dim the lights or set the warmth really helps when I have a headache and am experiencing light sensitivity.

After using Hue stuff for years I can say with confidence that it's all overpriced garbage. The bulbs work ok on Bluetooth. Just ok though. Getting anything set up is a nightmare. The app never wants to find bulbs or lightstrips even when I have my phone literally touching them. I decided to try using the Bridge again and getting it set up in the App was a nightmare. Once I finally got it working after an hour, it refused to find any of my light bulbs or light strips. Even with serial numbers it refuses to locate them. What a garbage product. For how much money these products cost I cannot believe how bad the user experience is.

Honestly I'm probably going to start investing in products that are Apple Homekit compatible instead. I've had nothing but a good experience using Apple Homekit

I love having HUE lights, many will complain about the need for a hub but its really the right way to go. Too many items on a Wifi network degrade the signal and slow down internet speeds. HUE runs a mesh network, every additional light strengthens their ability to communicate with the hub and even 50 bulbs only look like a single device attached to the Wifi network.

    Geniales productos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Estaba escéptico pero ¡esto va a dar un giro radical a la iluminación del hogar!
Reviewed in Mexico on December 30, 2016
